She’s been in small animal practice for 15yrs after graduating from Murdoch University in 2003. Having worked in local private practices and a few volunteer stints overseas, she started Island Veterinary Clinic in Singapore with partners in 2011. The area that excites her is surgery, both soft tissue and orthopaedic. Since 2008, she has gone for multiple workshops in Europe and SEA delving in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries. In 2018, she was on the local committee of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) conference held in Singapore and organized the local scientific programme. In the same year, she also participated in a research cum neuter programme with the Himalayan Mutt Project in Manang, Nepal. She is very happy to be able to do what she does no matter where she is.
Dr Dawn Chong
Dr Dawn graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2009, and spent 9 years practising in a busy vet clinic in the east, before joining Island Vet in late 2017.
Besides the obvious perks of the job (i.e. puppies & kittens), Dawn looks forward to building camaraderie with her patients' families. She has special interest in small animal internal medicine & surgery, as well as avian medicine. Outside of the clinic, she has worked on community projects with SPCA, Love Kuching Project, SOSD and elephant sanctuaries in Thailand.
On her days off, Dawn enjoys spending time nurturing an unhealthy level of attachment with her 2yo Congo African Grey parrot Pazuzu. She also has a beloved senior Golden Retriever Sally, and a dying vegetable garden.
Dr Poon Yuet Foong
She graduated from Murdoch University in Australia in 2005 with a degree in veterinary medicine and surgery. She also has a degree in Business from NTU(1998).
She has worked in in a busy small animal practice in Singapore prior to IslandVets . During this period, she has taken time off to obtain the Certificate of Veterinary Acupuncture from The Chi Institute which is jointly awarded by the China National Society of TCVM in 2009.
She is a registered Vet Acupuncturist in The Chi Institute and hence is recognised by the IVAS. She has also completed the advanced acupuncture training in 2010. In addition, she has attended classes in Food nutrition and herbal classes conducted by the Chi Institute.
Dr Poon has also completed Sydney University's CVE courses in Ophthalmology ( 2009) and Surgery( 2010) . She has also attended various workshops in surgery conducted by Improve Interbation in Swindon, United Kingdom. She has also done various courses on avian medicine and practice management. She is continuing her interest in internal medicine by attending continuing education courses In Melbourne . In addition, she is hoping to further her interest in complementary medicine by getting certified in canine rehabilitation in the near future.
Her interest is in medicine with emphasis on integrating both conventional and chinese medicine to obtain the best results.
Dr Tanja Kahrs
Dr Tanja graduated from the University of Sydney in 2011 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. She also has obtained a degree in Zoology from the University of Bristol. After graduation, she returned to her home country of Singapore where she worked for a busy small animal practice prior to joining Island Vets.
She has completed courses in Feline medicine and Internal Medicine with the University of Sydney CVE program. She has a keen interest in Internal Medicine and hopes to further develop her skills in Surgery and Radiology. She also has a passion for all things “Feline”.
She believes in the importance of preventative pet healthcare, which aims to evaluate pet health and recognise early signs of disease.
In her free time, she enjoys nature and conceptual photography. She is an avid film enthusiast and is quite fond of reading every chance she gets.
Dr Angeline Wong
Dr Angeline Wong graduated from Murdoch University in Australia in 2005 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery and started her career with a small animal practice. She then explored her interest in pathology with the governmen lab for a period of 4 years where her work includes post mortem examinations, cytological examinations, disease investigations and facilitating animal health programmes.
She has completed post-graduate course in medical oncology (2011) and soft tissue surgery (2014) with CVE Sydney. Currently, she is doing a course on low stress handling as she hopes to make the vet visit a pleasant one for the pet patient or at least not more fearful the next time.
She believes in patient care with focus on evidence-based medicine and strives to achieve that with continuing education and keeping abreast with current recommendations.
She is adopted by a beautiful cross-breed dog that found her on the road. She enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and crafts.
Dr Vivian Shim
Dr Vivian completed her bachelor in veterinary medicine and surgery at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh in 2012. Upon graduation, she took up a position at a small animal clinic in the heart of Singapore with a main focus on dogs and cats.
Interested in seeing more exotics species, she has decided to move on and recently joined our Bedok branch in September 2015.
She firmly believes in the importance of preventative medicine, and encourage clients to be well-knowledged regarding the benefits of good diet and husbandry. She also regularly participates in continuing education courses to keep up-to-date with current advances in veterinary medicine, so as to serve the pet community better.
During her past time, she enjoys exploring parts of Singapore that are less travelled and closer to nature. She also enjoys a good book or completing D-I-Y projects at home.
Ricky leads the division of nurses at our Bedok branch. Having been in the field of Veterinary medicine for the past 13 years, Ricky shares his knowledge and experiences with his team, forming a strong and effective team of nurse to serve the animals better.
On a personal front, Ricky is happily married with a son and a daughter, and enjoys spending time with his family whenever he has the change to return to his hometown in the Philippines.
Nurse / Receptionist
Marion graduated from Temasek Polytechnic in 2014 with a diploma of Veterinary Technology and has been serving the pet community ever since. She believes the key to a patient's successful recovery is teamwork between the clinic and the pet owners. In her spare time, she enjoys writing when not getting chased by her foster cats in Malaysia.
Amanda joined the Bedok branch as a volunteer in January 2016 while studying in Perth. In February 2017, she graduated from Murdoch University with a Degree in Animal Sciences and continued working part time at the clinic. Her interest and passion in animal healthcare led her to pursue a full time Vet Nurse position in July 2017.
She is passionate about providing the best care for animals and is motivated by the animals' recovery under the clinic's care. She believes that the education of owners on their pet's care is important in ensuring the animal's welfare.
In her free time, she paints, does calligraphy and attends to Belle, her miniature Schnauzer.
Shawn joined our Bedok Branch nursing team in March 2016. After graduating from Temasek Polytechnic in Biotechnology/Animal Science in 2008, he took a break from the animal industry to serve our nation and re-embarked his journey in 2012.
Pursuing his interest and passion for animals, Shawn has been enhancing and improving his skills and abilities in animal handling laboratory diagnostics.
In his free time, he would be occupied in caring for his two mixed-breed dogs and one cat.
